The past months have truly been exhilarating days for the church of Sioux Falls. As up to 350 people have been coming together for All Nations City Church services, we sense that God is doing something unprecedented in our community. What a joy it’s been to experience a foretaste of Revelation 7:9 which speaks of a multitude beyond number from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. Pastor Bekele of the Ethiopian Christian Fellowship Church has expressed the hope that one day we will fill the Sioux Falls Arena. I can only say, “Lord, may it be so–even sooner than later.”
I am confident that God has also rejoiced as he has watched us gather across denominational and ethnic lines. But I believe it is also his desire that we do more than worship together. It’s important that we also ask ourselves how we might serve together. How can we deepen our relationships and friendship
s beyond a once-a-month handshake? How can we as evangelical Christians do a better job of welcoming and enfolding the hundreds of people from other nations who make Sioux Falls their home every year? What kinds of wholesome summer activities can we offer to the immigrant/refugee children living in the apartment complexes across our city? How can we work hand in hand, both proclaiming and demonstrating that the Kingdom of God is at hand?
Worshiping together is essential. Pray then that the level of participation will increase. Tell the people in your spheres of influence what they have been missing and invite them to join us. But let’s also be on our knees seeking God’s direction as to how we might serve together. Ask the Lord of the church to show us the next steps we are to take. And then let’s be ready to respond–all for the honor and glory of our Savior and Lord.
